The way I look at it I don't care if it is 15,000lbs or 80,000lbs I charge by what size tow-truck it takes to get the job done & how many hours it takes to do the job. On a accident we charge. $250.00 per hr on a H/D (not a tater) from port to port. $30.00 per hour for a 2nd man on the truck. $45.00 per hour for a Supervisor. $40.00 Nylon Lifting Straps (per strap) + Air bags,light plant, ect,ect,ect !!!

Posts: 87 02/12/07 01:18:06 Featured Member August 2003Moderator	Mike, Where PPP is very usefull is this. Equipment has become more user friendly and Operators have evolved with their machines. If you come out with a 750 holmes and do a recovery that takes you we will say 4 hrs due to obisticles you had to remove and other circumstances. Now today most guys bring out big hyd wreckers that cost 5 times as much and do that same recovery in 2 hrs because the equipment can aid so much more ( ie Lifting and boom extention). Now are you going to take the 2 hrs less pay for the same job and pay out 5 times the amount for your equipment. PPP is very fair I use it all the time on my ROLLOVER recoverys. PPP you must remember is for rollover recoverys and not for winchout recoverys. Anything not rolled over should be done on a per hour basis or on a by the job basis. Jr

Posts: 1 04/28/07 20:11:56	I prefer to do PPP on major recoveries. Like stated above I should'nt be financially penalized for having modern equipment and the expedient knowledge to apply it. I started on a 750 then on to a kemp conversion back in the early 80's, anything short of flat out winching my current 3 stage 9055/XP850 kills our old 750. I'm the same guy with the same knowledge but I can do majors in half the time, sometimes less.... IMHO PPP is for majors done with a hydraulic and per hour is for majors (and winchouts and stuff) with a mechanical. Friend of Museum	You are right as PPP works best to make the prices fair based on knowledge and modern equipment... Yes I started out 29 years ago and I can tell you that a lot has changed.. being albe to lift and winch at the same time while doing a roll over cuts time amazingly... Try to lift with a 750 while winching... It will get ugly in a few seconds if you are not carefull.. I think that we are all the same operator, just have more training now, and it helps also. "To be honest, I'm more worried about what the government can do to me than what they can do for me."

Posts: 47 02/09/08 19:28:10	We have had a hard time introducing PPP in the Atlanta area. Now with the introduction of the TRIP Program it is clearly understood that this is the only way to go and GDOT is on board as well as all of the other TRIP companies. PPP rewards you for quick clearance, under a per hour basis we would be penalized for getting the road open in our 90 minute time frame. As I see it, PPP's biggest obstacle to becoming accepted industry wide is that there are too many companies applying it to the wrong types of jobs. In some cases it may be because of a lack of understanding, in some cases it's greed. No matter which reason it is, it makes us all look terrible when it happens. There "was" a company about 40 miles from here that was applying it to simple winchouts on police calls. $3000.00 winchouts were common and the companies were threatened with impoundment if they didn't pay. What a surprise, that very same company has now lost all of their police contracts that they had for over 20 years. jeff@southsidewrecker.biz

After all you are being "forced" to work faster and with more "specialized equipment"... Maybe Stormin seen the writting on the wall way back in the early 1990s when it was new... As I keep saying, COMMUNICATION is the key to Price Per Pound, along with education of the insurance and trucking companies... If the TRIP program people want to have more information on PPP, I will be glad to come up and do a presentation on it for them... Posts: 2 02/11/08 22:56:36	Remove this ad I have been using PPP for a year now on major recovies and have disclosed my rates to the local depts. The only problem is that some of the other companies around here are doing the same, but on med and light duty. I dont thinks that is right and I have tried to explain the diff. to the depts. Any ideas?

Posts: 148 02/22/08 17:03:23	I agree that PPP is probably the way to go on heavy recovery, but here it is going to be hard to make it work. In this area some towers have used this on straight towing and impounds and caused a lot of flack. I have Stormins chart and the wreckmaster calculator and those prices and my hourly prices usually come out to be very close if used the right way. I will say that my hourly price was set based on the cost of my equipment and I have had to justify my rates to the insurance companies on occassion. I have a 1060S rotator that is worth more per hour than my 30 tons. We are not yet price regulated but the state is considering doing this and that is what has aroused my interest in what is happening around the country.

Common sence should tell you that $3000 for whiching a pickup truck out is a bit on the nuts side. If everyone would get on a standardized PPP schedule things would work rather smoothly. Posts: 32 03/20/08 16:02:15	the only problem i have with ppp is the way thp rate sheet is set up it wont allow us to implement ppp. their rate sheet guide lines state that you must bill on an hourly rate.
