SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A Sacramento City Council committee on Tuesday approved a so-called crash tax for the city.
The law would impose a fee on drivers who don't live in the city, but get into a car accident that requires emergency response within city limits.
Non-residents would be charged from $435 for routine crashes to more than $2,000 for crashes with hazardous material clean up and helicopter transport.
The bill will now be forwarded on to the full council.
