Since the start of our TRIP Program we have developed a good working relationship with a particular independent insurance adjusting company here in Metro
Atlanta. This is the understanding we operate under and it is working out very well:
They obtain the actual weight and fuel tank capacity of the tractor, they add 250 lbs for personal items in the truck and add the weight of 3/4 capacity of diesel.
They obtain the actual weight of the trailer.
They obtain the actual weight of the load.
In return we provide them with a detailed checklist of each thing we charge for and how much that particular item costs. Then we write the invoice per the weights they provide. They divide the charges per the weights and divvy up those charges to each insuring party. THEN THEY GET US PAID QUICKLY!!!
In my opinion this is how things should work. Both of us act in good faith and get things handled. If every wrecker service and insurance company could manage to work together like this think of how much better things would be for both of us.
I am going to approach some of the other insurance adjusters with this formula and see how far I can take this. It would be great if others tried also.
