because thats why you take some of the equipment so no cleanup fee...ok that makes sense .....charge for each piece of equipment for however long you use it or as long as the job last.?..say I go to this accident and your told its a burn job so you take what you suspect you will need to do the job...now then each piece is not used at the same time..like the heavy simply sets there until you need it to load, winch, tow, whatever or the frontend loader is not used until you start the cleanup....dumptruck is not used until needed...however all equipment is tied up doing this recovery and and used as needed and cant go elsewhere...so does each piece draw hr rate for as long as the job last or does it only get its rate when in use LOL... I may have to work on this ticket <grin>

hummmmm just reread your post.......so according to what your saying........(example) entire recovery takes 3 hrs... cleanup takes 1 hr...
extra tractor and lowboy is on scene but used only at the first hr to load wreck on then stands by....frontend loader is on scene 3 hrs but stands by first two hrs..only used the last hr to cleanup
now then your heavy wrecker , extra tractor with lowboy and frontend loader is on scene 3 hrs......heavy draws its rate full 3 hrs.....frontend loader only draws 1 hr and extra truck and lowboy draws 1 hr.... is that what your saying ?? LOL ya gots to excuse my thick headed ness

jamies call was for another recovery and was just to tow the trailer...wrecked tractor was hit on rear pull and had to be towed from rear so we needed to call in an extra tractor.....by the way a fair charge of 125 per hr for extra tractor seems fair....what about a lowboy ? about the same per hr ? or approx 250 for both
just full of questions aren't I <grin>


I suspose a person simply has to use a little common sense in chargeing all the way around...useing that same last example you would only use the frontend loader 1 hr doing the cleanup "but" you had to load it and bring it out,,,load it back up and take it back,,,clean it up , so all in all 2 hrs mite be charged for the loader...3 for heavy and 2 for extra tractor and lowboy...dat the way it works ? and if so...what about the heavy wrecker ? it isn't being used the whole time so why charge the full time for it ...dam these examples are confuseing <grin>

alrighty then LOL thats what I was looking for .....this going strickly hourly rates for lite and heavy has raised several descussions between jamie and myself about what should be on a bill and what shouldn;t be .....like in liteduty we always charged for what ever we did (itemized) and it always worked fine for us and the customer..but going strickly hourly there are no other charges such as cleanup, miles towed or whatever ..just look at the clock when called out and look again when you get back...at least in liteduty theres very rairly any other equipment needed so the issue hasn't came up there
but heavy is a whole nuther ball game


What about scene supervisor ?? now to me this is the boss, ramrod, ,,,,he wouldn't be considered an operator so his charge wouldn't go on the heavy or any other piece of equipment...and ofcourse he has to get to the scene so the vehicle would be charged as well..in our case jamie drives his personal truck and we call it service truck....it is a decked out f-350 duelly fully stickered as a tow vehicle and insured.same as our other wreckers .and very capiable of doing lite recovery/towing ,,,also carrys lots of equipment to the scene
so on all the ones weve done so far I put a scene suppervisor and service truck charge (LiteDuty hr rates)
does that seem fair or am I pushing the envolope on that one ?
by the way..thanks for this info..if nuthin else we are placeing a little more info on the board others mite not have the answers for and are afraid to ask or dont want to seem as dumb as a stump as me

yup clear and sounds like so far i'm doing it right

those two wrecks with fatality they had several weeks back..you prob heard on the news as both were covered ...anyway I worked both of them

the first one was a mess and bad weather conditions..anyway the trucking company like to dodo-ed a brick when they saw the bill LOL...called the recovery board, state trooper in charge of towing and anybody else that would listen ...anyway the trooper called Jamie (think they know one another) Jamie faxed him a copy and he said it looked good to him...the trucking company talked to a few towing companys asking charges or so he said and I guess they told him it all looked fine and fair because he called back the next day apologizing and sent the check ...seemed just as happy as could be
charged it at 3 hrs and we were on it a bit longer because of icey conditions and held up because of the fatality...the heavy, med wrecker, service truck and extra tractor so you can figure that

it wasn't the amount of the bill they had a problem with ...they didn't think they should pay "any" bill at all...accident wasn't their fault

in that one I could see their point of view but he couldn't see ours ... truck had been here 14 days and ins company was drag assing around..they wanted their truck taken to freightLiner to be fixed and didn't feel like they should have to pay the bill...we let them have their trailer the next day after, but like jamie told him..the truck an't going nowhere till the bill is paid LOL
