Here is something we have now run in to a few times. I'm looking for opinions. Here in Atlanta there is a company we often use for transloads and spilled cargo clean up. They have tons of equipment and resources and its really nice to just make a phone call and have it done rather than scrambling to find available bodies at 2 am. We typically like them to bill the customer separately, this is where the question comes from.

If they do the clean up or transload I still bill for the cargo weight on my recovery. My reasoning for this is that typically its reloaded on to my trailer (I dont charge additional for the use of the trailer unless it turns in to long term storage). I have equipment and operators tied up and sometimes helping with the reload / transload. I typically had to drag, push or lift the loaded overturned trailer or or spilled cargo out of the travel lanes when we first arrive.

The sub-contractor then bills the insurance company for their services.

Had a Pete pullin a hopper bottom loaded with chicken feed. Ran off the road and layed over down a bad muddy ditch within site of my shop yesterday morning

Trailer was open top so it dumped approx half of the feed out...put 4 people with scoops in that sucker and in less than 20 min it was unloaded
uprighted and brought it to the yard in less than 1.5 hours......so how would one justify useing PPP on this recovery LOL owner lived close by so he was on

Since the start of our TRIP Program we have developed a good working relationship with a particular independent insurance adjusting company here in Metro
Atlanta. This is the understanding we operate under and it is working out very well:

They obtain the actual weight and fuel tank capacity of the tractor, they add 250 lbs for personal items in the truck and add the weight of 3/4 capacity of
diesel.
They obtain the actual weight of the trailer.
They obtain the actual weight of the load.

In return we provide them with a detailed checklist of each thing we charge for and how much that particular item costs. Then we write the invoice per the
weights they provide. They divide the charges per the weights and divvy up those charges to each insuring party. THEN THEY GET US PAID QUICKLY!!!

In my opinion this is how things should work. Both of us act in good faith and get things handled. If every wrecker service and insurance company could manage

ok so far i've only got a few Heavy recoverys under my belt...Did a tanker recovery a few days back...complete burn job and messy as hell..
When writeing the bill the question came up about the cleanup so I called a few People I know and didn't get a stright answer out of any of them LOL
heres the question...you have all this equipment out there drawing so much per hr with operator included...heavy wrecker, forklift, frontend loader, rollback,
dump truck, extra tractor with lowboy, ect... now then all this equipment is drawing its rate as long as it takes to get the job done...so...do you charge a
cleanup fee ??
in liteduty we always charged pretty much flatrate itimized or rather so much for each service done so a cleanup fee was included on the bill...now that
i'm into heavy i've switched all Lite and heavy to Hourly and haveing a hard time justfiying this charge ...Hows about someone enlighten me on this

How do you write a heavy duty towing or recovery
bill. Are your customers impressed with the neatness of
your billing? These are just some questions that you have
to ask yourself when you are writing a bill for a
customer. On all heavy duty wrecks are typed out on the
computer with our company letter head at the top. First
thing with doing bills in this manor is they are simply
legable. It can be a pain when the customer can not read
what is written for them. And may cause them to have
concerns when paying said bill. Take a close look at a
