Price discussions and "Antitrust" Issues

In light of current discussions in other places and forums, concerning the Insurance industry or state regulatory agencies trying to dictate our tow rates. I felt it was time to dig this information back out and post it again. This is from American Towman magazine (Volume 3, Number 3, Dated November - Decenmber 1979)

This was done in 1979 and while some of the rates are still under what they would like us to charge, it shows the national average costs for towing and recovery back 22 years ago.

Now if we took the 100.00 per hour and adjusted it for inflation at 3%...

I have been doing some research on towing bills and payment practices of Insurance Companies in response to a few requests for information from other towers. We have seen some requests on several towing forums for information.

I have noticed that there is a great amount of issue with getting payment for our services from either trucking companies or insurance companies, and in some cases the issue has forced litigation of the charges in order to get paid.

Now I know that many people do not like to share information even if it can help other towers with problems, but I want to propose a possible answer.

Way back in the beginning of WreckMaster and the creation of Price Per Pound billing, there were invoices sent to either or both Donnie Cruse and "Stormin" Norman Horton to either review or to keep as information references.

I know that there are dozens of "thoughts" on price fixing and discussion of prices..

But what I am asking, is what do you think is considered "public records" of prices and what is not ...

Are rates which are set by PD's and PUC offices public rates ?

Are your rates which you post on your wall considered public disclosure of rates?

What about when you have to submit rates to the local police departments in order to be on rotation considered public ?
